Explanation models
There are various ways to find accommodation that is becoming available. Rooms or flats that are becoming available are placed beforehand in one of three models:
- Supply model: awared the accommodation based on waiting time
- Lot-based model: everybody has got the same chance
- Direct for hire model: the first one to react, gets the offer
Supply, Lot-based and Direct for hire models
Student rooms
We offer most student rooms by means of the Lot-based model. At an agreed time we draw lots for the accommodation among all students who responded. Starting first-year students who respond to accommodation get priority in the Lot-based model from July through December. At times when there is less demand for student rooms, we also offer them via the Direct for hire model.
Self-contained student flats
We let self-contained student flats by means of the Supply model. The person registered with us longest time is the first to be eligible for the accommodation. Sometimes we also offer student flats by means of the Direct for hire model. The person who responds first may visit the accommodation.
Daily accommodation announcements
We place vacant accommodation on this website at 19:00 hrs. So each day you may see new accommodation. We will then send you a tip, if you have registered for tips.
Responding to accommodation
The rooms or flats remain on the website for seven calendar days. Under the accommodation details you can see how many responses we received. Our website allows you to compare the rooms easily. In total you may submit three responses, spread across the Supply, Lot-bades and Direct for hire model. For each accommodation you may respond once only. You may remove a response in the interim and respond to a different flat or room.
Selecting
The sequence in which responses arrive is recorded automatically. Our employees receive this list of responses. If you have been selected, they will inform you first. At the same time they will block you from submitting other responses.
Offer
Although our three housing corporations cooperate closely with each other, you may find that some processes differ slightly. You always have the right to visit a room or flat before you decide whether to accept it. After the visit you must give your decision within three days. We will then ask you to provide some details/documentary evidence.
Acceptance and conclusion of rental contract
Within three days of your visit, you must either accept or reject the accommodation. If you accept, we will draw up the rental contract. You can come to us to sign it. We will remove the flat or room from the website.
Deregistration
If you rent a student room, your registration will remain in the system. If you are going to rent a self-contained student flat, you will be deregistered as a person searching for a student home. This also ends your accumulated length of registration. You will receive a deregistration message
Rejection
You may find yourself at the top of the response list, but that does not mean that you must accept the accommodation. If you decline then candidate number two will receive the offer. We will ask you to state the reason for your rejection. After three rejections we will block your registration. You can then make an appointment with us to discuss the rejection of responses.
Details
The general accommodation information contains such details as the number of allocations over the past 12 months. The duration of registration before the allocation will be stated. You can also see whether there was a lottery or a manual allocation.
